BARBIE Director Greta Gerwig Reportedly Eyed To Helm Netflix's New CHRONICLES OF NARNIA Movies

Though there's been no official announcement, a report that Greta Gerwig is in line to direct Netflix's re-adaptations of C.S. Lewis' classic fantasy tales, The Chronicles of Narnia, has gained some traction.

We first heard about Netflix's plan to re-adapt C.S. Lewis' beloved fantasy tales from The Chronicles of Narnia back in 2018, and it looks like we may finally have some movement on the endeavour.

According to WhatsOnNetflix.com (the report has since been picked up by several larger outlets), Barbie director Greta Gerwig is being eyed to helm two Narnia movies (The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and Prince Caspian, presumably) for the streaming service.

We've seen live-action takes on the beloved fantasy adventure stories before, both on British television and in Disney's three movies (The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader). Those films proved to be highly divisive, with many Lewis fans feeling that they failed to do the books justice.

Last we heard, Netflix had enlisted Disney-Pixar writer Matthew Alrich as a “creative architect” to oversee all development on the Narnia movies and TV shows. We have no idea if he's still involved, however.

Gerwig is a highly in-demand actor/director, known for her work on the likes of Little Women, Lady Bird, Mistress America, and Frances Ha. Later this year, she'll star in Netflix's original movie White Noise, and also has the live-action Barbie film starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling on the way.
