Deadline is reporting that Bella Thorne And Jack Kilmer will headline an upcoming dark fantasy film from director Adam Sigal (Chariot), titled The Tower.
The plot is reportedly focused around, "a mysterious mermaid trapped and forgotten for years in the water tower of a small Southern town."
Bella Thorne is known for her roles in the Disney Channel series Shake It Up and more recently, the upcoming sci-fi drama Divinity. Kilmer, the son of Val Kilmer, is best known for his role in Palo Alto and for narrating the documentary on his father, Val.
Also starring in the film are Cam Gigandet (Violent Night) and Chris Mullinax (Chariot).
Filming on the project actually started before the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) started on July 14 at midnight. Production was paused until the indie film received a waiver from SAG-AFTRA to resume shooting despite the ongoing strike
Said Sigal:
"It breaks my heart that there are so many actors, writers and crews unable to work at the moment, and I realise how fortunate we are to have the opportunity to finish this film. I am incredibly grateful to SAG for continuing to support independent film, and as soon as we wrap, the cast of The Tower and I will be out there on the picket lines beside our fellow actors and writers, fighting for what they deserve."
SAG-AFTRA is currently granted waivers to productions that don't have any ties to the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). As we start the third week of the strike, a new report indicates that the AMPTP is now ready to resume negotiations.
