During last night's Gamescom Opening Night Live event, a new trailer for Hogwarts Legacy was revealed that's shown us a very different side of Harry Potter's old stomping grounds!
We've heard that players will be able to choose whether to head down a darker path throughout the course of the game, and this latest footage shows students investigating Salazar Slytherin's roots, encountering dark magic and zombies (yes, zombies!) along the way.
With the students forced to decide which of them will have the Crucio curse cast on them, it's clear Hogwarts Legacy will take us to some truly sinister places, while the sight of everything from a hideous troll to a staircase littered in bones makes this feel like a far cry from Hogwarts we'd spend time in hundreds of years later alongside Harry, Ron, and Hermoine.
That's not to say J.K. Rowling's books and the later movie adaptations didn't deliver their fair share of twisted moments, but fantasy fans hoping for a less "child-friendly" experience should be happy. Given the game's unique time setting, that obviously opens the door to exploring a Wizarding World that's vastly different from the one we're used to seeing on screen.
"Become the student you’ve always wanted to be as you experience life at Hogwarts and embark on a journey through the wizarding world," reads the synopsis for the game. "Discover magical beasts, craft potions, and master spell casting as you uncover the mystery of Ancient Magic."
There have been a lot of leaks for Hogwarts Legacy recently, and after a number of release date delays, we finally have a confirmed date for the highly anticipated game.
Hogwarts Legacy is coming to PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on February 10, 2023.
