House of the Dragon is still a few months away from arriving on HBO Max, but it sounds like plans are already being put in place for a second season. HBO has struggled to find ways to continue Game of Thrones after its divisive ending, with many planned prequels and spin-offs failing to take off. However, this one managed to make it, and the network appears confident in its chances of success.

While no official announcements have been made, the ever-reliable Redanian Intelligence suggests House of the Dragon season 2 is already in development at the streaming service.

This isn't entirely surprising as HBO programming chief Casey Bloys previously said, "We tend to like to see how a show performs. If I were betting, I'd say there’s a pretty good shot that House of the Dragon will get a season two. But we tend to like things to air and give it some time. That said, on most shows, we’ll do preparation and put ourselves in a good position to move forward."

It's unclear when House of the Dragon's second batch of episodes would arrive, though we can't imagine it would be before 2024 unless the plan is for shooting to begin imminently.

Created by George R. R. Martin and Ryan J. Condal, House of the Dragon is based on Martin's 2018 novel Fire & Blood. Set two hundred years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series will chronicle the beginning of the end of House Targaryen, the events leading up to the Targaryen civil war, known as the "Dance of the Dragons", and the war itself, events fans are keen to see play out.

House of the Dragon is set to premiere on HBO Max on August 21.
