BARBIE Director Greta Gerwig Confirmed To Helm Netflix's New CHRONICLES OF NARNIA Movies

Confirming a rumor that did the rounds last year, Barbie director Greta Gerwig is officially set to helm Netflix's re-adaptations of C.S. Lewis' classic fantasy tales, The Chronicles of Narnia.

A profile in the New Yorker has confirmed that Barbie director Greta Gerwig will helm "at least two" Chronicles of Narnia movies (The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and Prince Caspian, presumably) for Netflix.

We first heard about the streamer's plan to re-adapt C.S. Lewis' fantasy tales back in 2018, and it looks like we may finally have some movement on the endeavour.

We've seen live-action takes on the beloved fantasy adventure stories before, both on British television and in Disney's three movies (The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader). Those films proved to be highly divisive, with many Lewis fans feeling that they failed to do the books justice.

Last we heard, Netflix had enlisted Disney-Pixar writer Matthew Alrich as a “creative architect” to oversee all development on the Narnia movies and TV shows. We have no idea if he's still involved, however.

Gerwig is a highly in-demand actor/director, known for her work on the likes of Little Women, Lady Bird, Mistress America, and Frances Ha. She recently starred in Netflix's original movie White Noise, and also has the live-action Barbie film starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling on the way.
