Sometimes you can do everything right, and audiences still don't turn up.

Paramount Pictures and eOne's recent fantasy adaptation, Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, received very positive reviews from critics (it's sitting at 91% on Rotten Tomatoes, with an equally impressive 93% audience score), but despite a decent opening weekend and an A- CinemaScore, the movie simply failed to find its feet at the box office.

The final tally is now in, and Honor Among Thieves finished its theatrical run with a disappointing $93M domestic/$207M worldwide on a $150M budget.

Factoring in advertising costs, etc, and you have to believe the chances of a sequel being greenlit are somewhere between slim and none.

It would be a real shame if we didn't get to see these characters again, but a D&D spin-off series for Paramount+ is still in development (as far as we know), so we'll see how things pan out.

"A charming thief and a band of unlikely adventurers undertake an epic heist to retrieve a lost relic, but things go dangerously awry when they run afoul of the wrong people," reads the official synopsis. "Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves brings the rich world and playful spirit of the legendary roleplaying game to the big screen in a hilarious and action-packed adventure."

Game Night directors Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley helmed the project, and wrote the latest version of the script based on a previous draft by Michael Gilio. Derek Kolstad (John Wick; The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) has also been hired to write and develop a separate live-action Dungeons & Dragons television show, which was recently given a straight-to-series order for Paramount+.
