Paramount Pictures has released the first trailer and poster for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, the upcoming big screen adaptation of the hit board game from directors Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley.
While fans have had their reservations about the movie, it looks like a riot based on this sneak peek and clearly isn't taking itself too seriously. There probably is a version of Dungeons & Dragons that's a full-blown fantasy blockbuster in the vein of The Lord of the Rings, but this version looks far more commercially friendly.
Talking at the movie's Comic-Con panel earlier today, Pine admitted that he didn't discover the game until he was 42 but instantly became a fan.
"We got my whole family to play...it was amazing thing to see my family light up," he said. "My father didn’t want to play, and my sister thought it was a pain."
"If there’s a game that should be played in every high school, it’s D&D. You can get the bully and the jock in a room, and I guarantee you in 20 minutes, they won’t remember what kind of class they came from or who their best friends are or who the dork is. They just want to play and have a laugh."
In the movie, a charming thief and a band of unlikely adventurers undertake an epic heist to retrieve a lost relic, but things go dangerously awry when they run afoul of the wrong people.
The impressive cast includes Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Regé-Jean Page, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis, and Hugh Grant.
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves brings the rich world and playful spirit of the legendary roleplaying game to the big screen in a hilarious and action-packed adventure, and it arrives in theaters on March 3, 2023.
