Paramount and eOne's upcoming big-budget adaptation of Dungeons and Dragons was recently given an official title and release date, and our first look at the movie has now been unveiled thanks to a series of motion posters spotted in the wild at San Diego Comic-Con.
The banners are not the best quality, but they do give us a pretty clear glimpse of the fantasy adventure's main characters, who will be played by Chris Pine (Wonder Woman 1984), Justice Smith (Detective Pikachu, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom), Michelle Rodriguez (Avatar, Fast and Furious), Rege-Jean Page (Bridgerton), Sophia Lillis (IT), and Hugh Grant (Paddington 2)
We know Grant will play the main villain, Forge Fletcher, and Lillis is is playing a character named Doric, but details on the others are few and far between. Based on these shots, though, we assume Pine will be a Bard, Smith a Mage, Rodriguez a Barbarian, and Page a Paladin.
It's also probably safe to assume that this won't be a particularly serious adaptation of the classic tabletop game!
Game Night directors Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley helmed the project, and wrote the latest version of the script based on a previous draft by Michael Gilio. Specific lot details are still under wraps, but the story is said to focus on "a thief assembling a crew in the wake of a botched heist, in order to rob a traitorous conman who stole all his loot."
Derek Kolstad (John Wick; The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) has also been hired to write and develop a separate live-action Dungeons & Dragons television series.
Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves arrives in theaters March 3, 2023.
