The Super Mario Bros. Movie recently became the second highest-grossing animated film of all time, so it probably won't come as much of a surprise to learn that Universal and Illumination are looking at another Nintendo classic to adapt for the big screen.
Though we don't have too many details on this one just yet, The Hot Mic's Jeff Sneider has heard that a "huge deal" has been closed to develop an animated movie based on the best-selling fantasy adventure games.
For the uninitiated, the series is set in the fictional land of Hyrule, and tells the story of an adventurer named Link (who looks a lot like an Elf but is actually a member of the Hylian race) as he attempts to rescue Princess Zelda from the clutches of the evil wizard, Ganon.
The games have spawned everything from comics, to toys, to a short-lived animated series, and Zelda is one of the most popular, revered properties out there.
There have been several earlier attempts to adapt the game, and back in 2018, we heard that a live-action series from Castlevania's Adi Shankar was in the works for Netflix, but we haven't had any solid update since.
It's probably going to be a long time before we hear anything else about this one, but be sure to let us know what you think of this news in the comments down below.
