As promised, Warner Bros. has shared a new trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, giving us a much better look at Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) in action as the villainous Gellert Grindelwald.
The movie will see Dumbledore (Jude Law) assembling a team to "take down the most dangerous wizard in over a century," as his old enemy Grindelwald continues to sow the seeds of discord in the hopes of waging all-out war against the Muggles.
Among other things, fans can expect to explore Dumbledore's origins, as we dive into the complex, high-stakes relationship between Harry Potter's mentor and Grindelwald to unlock the story of these two legendary wizards.
Professor Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) knows the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Mads Mikkelsen) is moving to seize control of the wizarding world. Unable to stop him alone, he entrusts Magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) to lead an intrepid team of wizards, witches and one brave Muggle baker on a dangerous mission, where they encounter old and new beasts and clash with Grindelwald’s growing legion of followers. But with the stakes so high, how long can Dumbledore remain on the sidelines?
Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Jude Law and Ezra Miller are all set to reprise their respective roles from the previous instalments, with David Yates back behind the camera. There will be one major casting change, however.
Johnny Depp revealed that he'd been asked to "resign" from his role as the villainous Gellert Grindelwald last year. Though he didn't specify the reason at the time, this came just days after the Pirates of the Caribbean star lost a libel case against British tabloid The Sun, who labelled him a "wife-beater" in a 2019 article.
Shortly after, WB announced that Mads Mikkelsen (Doctor Strange, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) had signed on to replace Depp as the character.
