Disney's latest live-action remake, The Little Mermaid, is set to hit theaters next month, and the Mouse House has now shared a new teaser promo for Rob Marshall's retelling of the animated classic.
Though some of the footage has carried over from the most recent trailer, we also have some new shots of Ariel (Halle Bailey) swimming down to the darkest depths of the ocean, where she strikes a fateful pact with the evil sea witch, Ursula (Melissa McCarthy).
Ariel trades her voice for a pair of human legs so that she can follow Prince Eric to the above world, but, as it tends to be with any deal with the Devil, things don't play out as she expects!
The Little Mermaid will feature music from the original as well as four new songs. Lin-Manuel Miranda, who previously worked with Marshall on Mary Poppins Returns, also composed original music for Mermaid along with Alan Menken.
The Little Mermaid is the beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. The youngest of King Triton’s daughters, and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea, and while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy.
The movie is set to swim into theaters on May 26, 2023.
