Disney has just released a new minute-long trailer for The Little Mermaid that finally gives Jacob Tremblay the chance to shine as Flouder. We've caught a few glimpses of Ariel's fishy friend before now, of course, but this is the first time we've seen him speak!
There are also some terrific shots of Ursula and King Triton, while another glimpse of Sebastian is also welcomed (fingers crossed we get to hear more from him soon too).
During a recent interview with Total Film (via Toonado.com), The Little Mermaid director Rob Marshall weighed in on possibly expanding the live-action franchise. "I know there have been the prequels and sequels to the animated film - like, the straight-to-video kind of things, you know? It’s a classic story that has a lot of characters and a lot of interesting stories."
"I do think it’s right for certain things. But you have to see how a movie plays, and how it does," the filmmaker continued. "I think there’s always opportunity to find stories within stories. That’s always a wonderful thing."
Check out this new teaser for the movie below.
In The Little Mermaid, the youngest of King Triton’s daughters, and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea, and while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart.
She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy.
The Little Mermaid stars singer and actress Halle Bailey as Ariel, Daveed Diggs as the voice of Sebastian, Jacob Tremblay as the voice of Flounder, Awkwafina as the voice of Scuttle, Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, Art Malik as Sir Grimsby, Noma Dumezweni as Queen Selina, with Javier Bardem as King Triton, and Melissa McCarthy as Ursula.
Helmed by filmmaker Rob Marshall, the movie opens in theaters on May 26, 2023.
