HBO held a panel for Game of the Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon at Comic-Con on Saturday night, and fans lucky enough to be in Hall H were treated to a new look at the show.
It wasn't released online at the time, but after premiering during Discovery's Shark Week programming last night, it's finally dropped on social media and YouTube. Despite being mostly identical to the trailer we got prior to the festivities in San Diego, there are a lot of extended and never before seen shots here as well.
There are some intriguing glimpses of a young Rhaenyra and Alicent Hightower, while Viserys can be heard warning someone that the Iron Throne is "the most dangerous seat in the realm." Rhaenyra, who is expected to be House of the Dragons lead, meanwhile, gets the best line of the trailer when she says, "Targaryens are closer to gods than to men."
Based on author George R.R. Martin's best-selling Fire & Blood, the series, set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, tells the story of House Targaryen. In the show, we'll learn how the powerful family fell into a bitter and brutal civil war known as the "Dance of the Dragons," presaging the beginning of the end of the ruling dynasty of Westeros.
House of the Dragon stars Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Sonoya Mizuno, and Rhys Ifans.
Other cast members include Fabien Frankel, Milly Alcock, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Emily Carey, Harry Collett, Ryan Corr, Tom Glynn-Carney, Jefferson Hall, David Horovitch, Wil Johnson, John Macmillan, Graham McTavish, Ewan Mitchell, Theo Nate, Matthew Needham, Bill Paterson, Phia Saban, Gavin Spokes, and Savannah Steyn.
The series premieres on August 21, and you can watch the new trailer below:
