Netflix's AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER Season 2 Episode Titles Suggest Shorter Season

Season 2 of Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action series will be slightly shorter than expected, at least in terms of overall episode count.

According to Knight Edge Media, the upcoming season will feature seven episodes instead of the originally planned eight. However, despite the reduced episode count, the overall runtime will actually surpass that of Season 1, which had eight episodes totaling 430 minutes (7 hours and 10 minutes).

Here’s a look at the episode titles and their writers:

  • Episode 1: Somewhere Safe (Christine Boylan)
  • Episode 2: A Fight, Once Begun (Phinneas Kiyomura)
  • Episode 3: City of Walls and Secrets (Helen Shang)
  • Episode 4: The Water Falls, the Stones Emerge (Teresa Huang)
  • Episode 5: Ten Thousand Things (Gabriel Llanas)
  • Episode 6: The Parable of the Two Dragons (Keely MacDonald)
  • Episode 7: Something Broken (Christine Boylan & Gabriel Llanas)

With a slightly condensed episode count but longer total runtime, Season 2 promises even more adventure, intrigue, and world-building for fans of the beloved series. Season 2 will adapt the Book Two: Earth storyline, picking up where Season 1 left off with the Gaang’s journey through the Earth Kingdom.

"In Season 2, after a bittersweet victory saving the Northern Water Tribe from the invading Fire Nation, Aang (Gordon Cormier), Katara (Kiawentiio), and Sokka (Ian Ousley) regroup and set off on a mission to convince the elusive Earth King to aid in their battle against fearsome Fire Lord Ozai (Daniel Dae Kim)," Netflix's synopsis for Season 2 reads.

Since Netflix’s live-action series has far fewer episodes than the original animated show, the writers will likely condense and reshape certain events. This may also explain why some episode titles appear to be out of sequence.

Fans of the original Nickelodeon animated series can look forward to the live-action introduction of Toph Beifong, the blind Earthbending prodigy and beloved fan favorite, played by Miya Cech.

Season 2 also welcomes several new cast members, including:

  • Chin Han (Mortal KombatSkyscraper) as Long Feng
  • Hoa Xuande (The SympathizerTop of the Lake: China Girl) as Professor Zei
  • Justin Chien (The Brothers SunThe Great Leap) as King Kuei
  • Amanda Zhou (Spinning OutThe Handmaid’s Tale) as Joo Dee
  • Crystal Yu (Doctor WhoGood Omens) as Lady Beifong
  • Kelemete Misipeka (Sons of Thunder) as The Boulder
  • Lourdes Faberes (The SandmanOperation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre) as General Sung
  • Rekha Sharma (YellowjacketsBattlestar Galactica) as Amita

Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2 is slated to premiere on Netflix this year, although no specific release date has been announced. Season 3 was filmed immediately after Season 2, which should help shorten the wait between the two seasons.
