Disney wrapped up D23 with an appearance from the team working on Percy Jackson and the Olympians, and the cast and crew brought a welcomed first look at the Disney+ series with them!
"I cannot believe that at last, Percy Jackson and the Olympians TV show is coming to life!" author Rick Riordan told fans in attendance. "And Disney+ I think is the perfect home for it. [The Walt Disney Company] have been behind the books from the very beginning, and they've helped us assemble a world-class team to help bring this story to the screen."
After a few additional comments from the show's cast, a teaser was shown that you can check out below. Taking us to Camp Half-Blood, we hear Walker Scobell's Percy Jackon share a dangerous warning about what exactly it means to consider yourself a half-blood.
"Being a Half-Blood is dangerous. It's scary. Most of the time it gets you killed," he says. "If you think you might be one of us, my advice is...turn away while you still can. Believe whatever lie your mom or dad told you about your birth. Try to live a normal life, because once you know what you are, they'll sense it too, and they'll come for you. Don't say I didn't warn you."
Elsewhere in the teaser, we see demigods in their iconic orange t-shirts and Greek battle gear, what appears to be a game of capture the flag, and the empty necklace fans of the books will know Percy populates with beads from his quests. The footage ends with an ominous shot of the title character approaching Poseidon's cabin.
Based on Disney Hyperion's best-selling book series, the series tells the fantastical story of a 12-year-old modern demigod, Percy Jackson, who's just coming to terms with his newfound divine powers when the sky god Zeus accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt.
With help from his friends Grover and Annabeth, Percy must embark on an adventure of a lifetime to find it and restore order to Olympus.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians also stars Aryan Simhadri, Leah Sava Jeffries, Jason Mantzoukas, Megan Mullally, Virginia Kull (The Big Bend), Glynn Turman, Timm Sharp, Olivea Morton, Dior Goodjohn, and Charlie Bushnell.
The series is expected to premiere on Disney+ either next year or sometime in 2024.
