SHE-RA Live-Action Prime Video Series Taps WATCHMEN Director Nicole Kassell To Helm

We found out late last year that She-Ra is set to make her live-action debut in a new Amazon Prime Video series, and the project has now found a director in the form of Watchmen helmer Nicole Kassell.

It's been quite a while since we heard anything about this, but the live-action She-Ra series that was announced late last year is still in-development for Prime Video, and the project has now enlisted a director.

Variety reports that Nicole Kassell is set to direct and executive produce the pilot episode (should it move forward). DreamWorks, who worked on the recent Netflix animated series, will also executive produce, but this is expected to be a standalone story with no connections to The Princesses of Power. A writer has yet to be enlisted.

Kassell previously helmed multiple episodes of HBO's Watchmen, as well as the likes of Westworld, The Leftovers,The Americans, and Castle Rock. More recently, she directed the pilot of the HBO's The Baby.

She-Ra debuted in 1985's He-Man and She-Ra: The Secret of the Sword before going on to feature in her own animated spinoff, She-Ra: Princess of Power. The character was revived for the acclaimed She-Ra and the Princesses of Power Netflix series, which aired its fifth and final season back in 2020.

We still don't know a whole lot about this live-action project, but both animated shows followed Adora as she struggled with embracing her destiny as the protector of Etheria. There were significant differences, however, as the Netflix series removed any connection to He-Man and made the young warrior a Horde soldier who comes to realize that she's fighting for the bad guys.
