THE LORD OF THE RING: THE RINGS OF POWER First Look Stills Feature Galadriel, Elrond, And More

Prime Video recently debuted a series of posters for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power which only showed the characters from the chest down, but thanks to Vanity Fair, we finally have a proper look at the likes of Galadriel, Elrond, Durin, and some prominent players who don't have their roots in J.R.R. Tolkien's seminal fantasy novels.

It looks like this younger take on Elf Queen Galadrel (Morfydd Clark) is going to be the main focus of the series. Her story will see her join forces with a mortal castaway named Halbrand (Charlie Vickers) after they're left stranded at sea. Other plotlines will follow the Dwarfs of Khazad-dûm led by Prince Durin IV (Owain Arthur), a silvan elf named Arondir (Ismael Cruz Córdova) and his forbidden love Bronwyn (Nazanin Boniadi), and more.

Elrond (Robert Aramayo) and Isildur (Maxim Baldry) will also feature, but if Sauron is set to make a physical appearance, the showrunners are keeping it under their pointy hats.

One thing Patrick McKay would address is the rumor that the show will feature Game of Thrones levels of sex and violence. In short, it won't.

“We wanted to make a show for everyone, for kids who are 11, 12, and 13, even though sometimes they might have to pull the blanket up over their eyes if it’s a little too scary. We talked about the tone in Tolkien’s books. This is material that is sometimes scary—and sometimes very intense, sometimes quite political, sometimes quite sophisticated—but it’s also heartwarming and life-affirming and optimistic. It’s about friendship and it’s about brotherhood and underdogs overcoming great darkness.”

Amazon Studios’ forthcoming series brings to screens for the very first time the heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history. This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness.

Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is set to premiere on Friday, September 2.

Not really the look I expected it to have (bit of how all high fantasy looks these days), but I like what I'm seeing
