THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RINGS OF POWER Trailer Teases Sauron's Origin As Middle-earth's Greatest Villain

As promised, Prime Video has released a new trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, and as well as teasing another Middle-earth adventure, we get another glimpse at Sauron's mysterious origins.

We're starting to get a much better idea of what to expect from The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, and this new trailer explores Galadriel's (Morfydd Clark) mission to save Middle-earth. It makes sense to put an established character at the forefront of the prequel series, and we probably shouldn't be surprised that the show will also explore Sauron's origin.

Played by Anson Boon, the iconic villain is once again shown in this sneak peek looking a far cry from the armoured behemoth we saw in The Lord of the Rings movies...but still suitably creepy!

While House of the Dragon is exploring the history of a specific family we became acquainted with in Game of Thrones, Prime Video appears to have much grander ambitions for this series. As the title suggests, we'll also learn more about The Rings of Power, and we can't help but wonder whether the plan could be to end the show where The Fellowship of the Ring began.

Those flashbacks to Sauron's defeat look set to take on a whole new meaning, anyway, and with this likely the final trailer before the show premieres, we can't wait to check this one out.

The show, adapted from J.R.R. Tolkien's iconic series of novels, takes place during the Second Age, thousands of years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Set in a time of relative peace, this story follows an ensemble made up of established and new characters as they "confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth."

From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.

J.D. Payne & Patrick McKay are serving as showrunners, and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is set to premiere with two episodes on September 2.
