Netflix recently released The Witcher season 3, volume 2, bringing an end to Henry Cavill's time as Geralt of Rivia. Season 4 will see Liam Hemsworth take over the role, though it's unclear whether we'll get a storyline explanation for the character's change in appearance.

The show's third season has received a mostly positive response but has done little to alter the opinions of those who feel this adaptation is a disappointment.

Cavill's time as Geralt ended with more of a whimper than a bang, anyway, but Redanian Intelligence has now revealed a scrapped moment from the finale originally intended to set the stage for season 4.

The site explains that the finale was supposed to end with, "Milva helping Geralt in need, while Cahir was watching them from afar."

In the episode, we saw Geralt, Jaskier and Milva riding off into the sunset after the latter helps the Witcher dispatch the remaining Nilfgaardian soldiers. However, this version was going to have the action "seemingly cut to Cahir, watching them from afar, indicating that he's following them and teasing Season 4."

So, why the change?

The site isn't sure and doesn't know whether this sequence was ever actually shot. It's possible this was deemed too similar to how The Witcher: Blood Origins ended, while we can also look to Andrzej Sapkowski's novels for clues.

In those, Cahir ends up being a captive of the elves, suggesting The Witcher intends to take a slightly longer way around to having the character join Geralt's group.

While Cavill has now departed the series, Anya Chalotra, Freya Allan, and Joey Batey are all expected to reprise their respective roles alongside Hemsworth's new Geralt. As for the show's next big bad, you can learn more about them by clicking here.

We had anticipated The Witcher season 4 premiering in 2024, but the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes make a 2025 debut more likely.
