The Witcher season 2 featured a far more linear style of storytelling, and while it was easier to follow what was going on, there were those who felt the show lost some of its charm in the process. Either way, the hope is that the Netflix series will improve during its upcoming third season, and at least one big change has now been made to the cast.
Chris Fulton impressed us as Rience last year, but it's been confirmed today that he won't be returning for season 3.
Instead, information and set photos shared by Redanian Intelligence confirm that Sam Woolf has replaced him. His credits include The Crown and Assassin's Creed Valhallla, and he certainly looks the part.
As you can see by following the link in the Tweet below, Rience will once again square off with Henry Cavill's Geralt, Anya Chalotra's Yennefer and Freya Allan's Ciri. The actor was spotted shooting The Witcher in Wales, and the assumption is that scheduling issues may have led to the casting change.
In the series, Lydia van Bredevoort enlisted Rience to track down Ciri, and that's since led to him capturing and torturing the bard Jaskier for information about her and Geralt's whereabouts. He used fire magic to torture Jaskier until Yennefer arrived on the scene, and she was responsible for those scars on his face.
Cameras are still rolling on The Witcher season 3 and the series is expected to return to Netflix next year. Prequel series The Witcher: Blood Origin is in post-production, though, and is expected to hit the streaming service this Christmas.
