The Witcher season 2 came under fire for veering too wildly from the source material and is one of the reasons that's been given for Henry Cavill's shocking departure from the Netflix series.
One change that's really bothered fans is the fact Yennefer's story arc has changed so much that her relationships with Geralt and Ciri are almost unrecognisable. Rather than mentoring the girl, Yennefer nearly sacrificed her, only to change course at the last minute. Now, for those wondering how the relationship between this trio will be fixed, we have some fresh intel from Redanian Intelligence.
For starters, there will be what the site calls a "mini-arc" early on in season 3, featuring Geralt slowly warming to Yennefer after initially wiping his hands with the sorceress.
In an episode titled "Shaerrawaedd," it's said that they and Ciri even attend the Belleteyn festival together, so it sounds like the characters will quickly be brought more in line with what we've seen on the page. At the end of the arc - which will likely play out over a couple of episodes - Geralt forgives Yen and admits he once again trusts her to take care of his ward.
With that, she takes Ciri to Aretuza, with subsequent episodes giving them chance to bond before the events of Thanedd in the sixth episode.
Whether this will actually work and not feel rushed is another matter, of course, but at least it's a course correction for a series that's in desperate need of one. Liam Hemsworth is taking over the role from Cavill starting with The Witcher season 4, but it's unclear what the future holds in store for the show beyond that.
Remember, The Witcher is a big investment for Netflix, and with all streaming services looking to curb spending, it wouldn't be surprising for the plug to be pulled on the show. There was a time when it could have been one of the streamer's biggest properties, but interest has waned, something not helped by big gaps between seasons and Cavill's departure.
Season 3 is set to be released sometime this summer, while another spin-off - revolving around the Rats - is also thought to still be in pre-production.
