THE WITCHER Season 3 Volume 2 Trailer Teases A Definitive End For Henry Cavill's Geralt Of Rivia

Netflix has released the first trailer for the second half of The Witcher season 3, and it seems the streamer is teasing something of a definitive end to Henry Cavill's time as the show's Geralt of Rivia.

Netflix has released the first trailer for The Witcher season 3, volume 2 ahead of its launch on the streamer later this month.

The first batch of episodes saw Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill), Yennefer (Anya Chalotra), and Jaskier (Joey Batey) do everything they possibly could to keep Ciri (Freya Allan) safe, and based on what we see here, the stakes are going to remain incredibly high.

Ciri actually receives a great deal of the spotlight, but there's plenty of epic action and what look to be some big goodbyes between the show's leads. Of course, the farewell that's generated the most discussion is Henry Cavill's departure from the show.

He'll be replaced by Liam Hemsworth in season 4, and with the show's creative team strongly hinting that we're getting a storyline explanation for the change, it's hard not to scour this latest footage for clues.

Things certainly look dire for Geralt in this new look at The Witcher, anyway, and we can't help but wonder whether the plan might be for the hero to die, only to later be restored with a new body! There's not long to go before we find out.

"As monarchs, mages and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it," reads the official season 3 synopsis.

"Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to discover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line – or risk losing each other forever."

The Witcher returns to Netflix on July 27.
