New photos from the set of The Witcher season 4 have found their way online today, offering us a first look at The Matrix star Laurence Fishburne as Regis, a beloved character from the books and games.
Introduced in Andrzej Sapkowski's novel Baptism of Fire, Regis is a world-wise Barber-surgeon with a mysterious past who joins Geralt on his journey in season 4.
Based on what we see below, this take on the character is faithful to how he's been described on the page and his portrayal in CD Projekt Red's hit video game series.
Redanian Intelligence believes that Regis is joined by a group known as "The Hansa" or "Geralt's Hansa," a group of warriors who will be led by Liam Hemsworth's Geralt of Rivia. It appears Netflix was shooting Regis' most iconic scene where his true nature is revealed at a campsite where a woman is being accused of witchcraft.
"I'm very excited to be joining the cast and look forward to exploring the wondrous world of The Witcher," Fishburne previously said of his casting.
He joins Liam Hemsworth, Anya Chalotra, Freya Allan, Joey Batey, Sharlto Copley, James Purefoy, and Danny Woodburn in what will be the show's penultimate season (we recently learned the series will end with season 5).
After the shocking, Continent-altering events that close out season three, the new season follows Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri who are faced with traversing the war-ravaged Continent and its many demons apart from each other. If they can embrace and lead the groups of misfits they find themselves in, they have a chance of surviving the baptism of fire - and finding one another again.
"As a Witcher fan, I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia," Hemsworth said shortly after being chosen as the show's new lead. "Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honored that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure."
"Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character. I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world."
