Ahead of the season 2 premiere of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, news has emerged about the third season of the fantasy Disney+ series.

Actress Dafnee Keen, best known for playing X-23 in Logan and Deadpool & Wolverine, has joined the show to play Artemis.

In the Percy Jackson series, Artemis is the goddess of the hunt and a pivotal figure in the third book, The Titan’s Curse (the book that season 3 will cover). She leads the Hunters of Artemis, an all-female band of immortal warriors, and her actions and fate are closely linked to the prophecy Percy and his friends must unravel. As a strong and independent Olympian, she plays a crucial role in the story’s central conflict.

One prominent member of the Hunters of Artemis is Zoë Nightshade, who will be portrayed by Saara Chaudry. She's best known for starring in the YouTube Originals series Lockdown.

Production on season 2 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians wrapped in Summer 2024, and season 3 is currently filming. It's thought that Disney is trying to quickly film new seasons to make sure that the cast doesn't become too old to play their respective characters.

In the first book, The Lightning Thief, Percy Jackson is 12 years old. He turns 13 during the summer before the events of the second book, The Sea of Monsters. By the fifth and final installment, The Last Olympian, Percy spends most of the story at 15 and celebrates his 16th birthday near the novel’s conclusion.

For additional context, series star Walker Skoebell was 13 when he filmed season 1 in 2022 and is currently 16. If the Disney+ series proves popular enough to warrant adapting all five books in the series, Skoebell could be well into his 20s by the time the show ends, unless filming occurs with little downtime between seasons.

Season two of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” is based on “The Sea of Monsters” - the second installment of Disney Hyperion’s best-selling book series by award-winning author Rick Riordan. Percy Jackson returns to Camp Half-Blood one year later to find his world turned upside down. His friendship with Annabeth is changing, he learns he has a cyclops for a brother, Grover has gone missing, and camp is under siege from the forces of Kronos. Percy’s journey to set things right will take him off the map and into the deadly Sea of Monsters, where a secret fate awaits the son of Poseidon.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 is set to premiere on December 10, 2025, exclusively on Disney+.
