The Northman is set to hack its way into theatres this Friday in the UK, and Focus Features has just debuted a stunningly intense final trailer for Robert Eggers' fantasy-tinged Viking epic.

Highlighting the brutal nature of Amleth and his brethren (yes, there are women and children in that hut they're setting ablaze), this latest sneak peek also contains pull quotes from some of the critics who have heaped praise on The Lighthouse director's latest "stone-cold masterpiece."

Set in Iceland at the turn of the 10th century, Skarsgård plays the Viking prince Amleth, who witnesses his father's (Hawke) murder at the hands of his own brother (Claes Bang) as a child and vows vengeance. He returns as an adult alongside a fellow warrior played by Anya-Taylor Joy, and begins his bloody campaign to rescue his mother Queen Gudrun (Kidman) and claim his birthright.

Check out the new trailer below along with two extended clips, and be sure to drop back for our review of the film this weekend.

The Northman also stars Murray McArthur, Ian Gerard Whyte, Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, and Kate Dickie. The movie is set to hit theatres on April 15 in The UK and April 22 in the US.

Isn't this the same story as Conan the Barbarian (1982)?
