DON'T BREATHE Director Fede Alvarez Developing New ALIEN Film For Hulu; Ridley Scott To Produce

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that 20th Century Studios and Hulu are in the very early stages of developing a new film in the Alien franchise, with Fede Alvarez (Don't Breathe; Evil Dead) set to write and direct.

Legendary filmmaker and franchise creator Ridley Scott (The Last Duel; House of Gucci) will produce under his Scott Free banner.

According to THR, Alvarez is a huge fan of the sci-fi horror franchise and once pitched his take on a story to Scott. The mystery idea left Scott intrigued for a few years until late 2021 when he decided to call Alvarez out of the blue and ask him if he was still interested in doing it. Alvarez, of course, jumped at the opportunity.

This will be the second Alien project heading to Hulu, following a live-action prequel television series that is being developed by Noah Hawley (FargoLegion) and is expected to arrive in 2023 or 2024. Whether this new film will tie into that project or serve as a continuation of Alien: Covenant remains to be seen, but it seems to be trending in the direction of being its own thing entirely.

As per Disney's directive, 20th Century Studios will be developing over ten films a year for Hulu moving forward and it sounds like we could be getting some seriously big IPs hitting the streaming service in the not-so-distant future.
