AVATAR Re-Release Includes An Unexpected Surprise For Fans Looking Forward To AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER

Avatar has started rolling into theaters across the globe, and it's being reported that fans are getting an Avatar: The Way of Water sneak peek. However, there's a unique twist, so read on for details...

With the Avatar re-release beginning to roll out into theaters across the globe, social media is abuzz with the news that there's a surprise at the end of the credits for fans.

The movie didn't feature a post-credits scene in 2009, though we're sure it would have done had they been as popular then as they are now (remember, Iron Man only came out the year before James Cameron's 3D blockbuster). However, rather than a new scene teasing Avatar: The Way of Water, moviegoers are being treated to footage from the upcoming sequel!

It appears that depending on which theater you visit and where you live, different previews are being shown. It's an interesting decision, but one that's only going to build buzz for the next movie. It may also encourage moviegoers to go and watch the Avatar re-release more than once, particularly if doing so means getting a new sneak peek.

The response thus far has been unanimously positive, anyway, and this is definitely a fun way to hype Avatar: The Way of Water (instead of just releasing a new trailer as we initially expected).

Avatar is currently playing in Korea and France and hits pretty much everywhere this weekend aside from China and Russia. With nothing else of note arriving in theaters, we expect the blockbuster to head straight to #1.

Written and directed by Cameron, Avatar stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez, and Sigourney Weaver.

The film was produced by James Cameron and Jon Landau, and ended up being nominated for nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. Ultimately, Avatar won three Oscars for Best Cinematography, Production Design, and Visual Effects.

To whet audiences' appetites, Disney/20th Century Studios will re-release Avatar in theaters on September 23. As for Avatar: The Way of Water, that arrives in theaters worldwide on December 16.
