Disney/20th Century Studios has now officially released the first teaser trailer for James Cameron's Avatar: The Way of Water, which has been playing in theaters ahead of Marvel's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
The teaser - which you really should go out of your way to see on the big screen - features stunning footage of the long-awaited sequel, as returning heroes Jake Sully, (Sam Worthington) and Na’vi Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) do everything they can to ensure their family's safety.
Specific story details are still under wraps, but we do know that The Way of Water will be set 10 years after the events of the first film, and it looks like some new human interlopers have arrived on Pandora. We really hope Cameron hasn't simply repeated the divisive "Unobtanium" subplot here, but it's certainly one possibility.
Check out the trailer below, and let us know what you think.
Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, Avatar: The Way of Water begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure. Directed by James Cameron and produced by Cameron and Jon Landau, the film stars Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement and Kate Winslet.
Avatar: The Way of Water is set to hit theaters in December 16th, 2022.
