There's a huge amount of excitement surrounding James Cameron's Avatar: The Way of Water, and while we have some new stills from the sequel, rumour has it the trailer has also surfaced earlier than expected.

CinemaCon attendees were treated to the first footage from Avatar: The Way of Water, and it was confirmed during the event that the trailer would premiere in front of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Clearly, Disney wants audiences to experience this sneak peek for the first time on a big screen, but with a week to wait before it does debut online, leaks are obviously inevitable.

However, those have started a little sooner than expected.

As of right now, the trailer is available to watch online. While we won't be linking to the bootleg low-res copy, you might want to be aware that it's out there. It's a shame that's how many will experience James Cameron's 3D epic for the first time, and Disney might want to consider an earlier online debut.

In other news, more stills from Avatar: The Way of Water have been revealed and they're nothing short of jaw-dropping. The visuals in this sequel promise to be absolutely insane, and while these shots don't reveal much, we do get to see the level of detail on Sam Worthington's returning Jake.

Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, Avatar: The Way of Water begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.

Avatar: The Way of Water arrives in theaters worldwide on December 16.
