GODZILLA VS KONG Sequel Gets A Positive Update...And It's Coming Way Sooner Than We Expected!

Godzilla vs. Kong was a huge hit when it opened last year, and we now have news on the sequel! Despite only rumblings up until this point, it appears that movie could be coming our way sooner than expected...

Legendary Pictures' MonsterVerse has been something of a mixed bag, and while Godzilla: King of the Monsters received a mostly negative response and underperformed at the box office, the studio understandably moved full steam ahead with Godzilla vs. Kong. That exceeded expectations in the midst of the pandemic, earning an impressive $468 million at the worldwide box office.

Clearly, the clash between these two behemoths is exactly what moviegoers wanted, and Legendary is clearly committed to its MonsterVerse plans. Back in January, we learned that Apple TV is developing Monarch, a spinoff TV series from Chris Black (Star Trek: Enterprise) and Matt Fraction (Hawkeye), picking up in the aftermath of Godzilla's battle with his fellow Titans in San Francisco.

Now, Variety is reporting that a sequel to Godzilla vs. Kong is set to begin shooting later this year on Australia's Gold Coast. King of the Monsters and Kong: Skull Island were shot down under, so this isn't a surprise; what does come as shock, however, is the fact we're getting a Godzilla vs. Kong 2

The stage may have been set for that with the first movie, but nothing has been officially announced and there's no word on a writer or director at this stage. Adam Wingard is unlikely to direct as he's busy with his planned Face/Off sequel, but Legendary returning to this well makes a lot of sense.

The only way to top Mechagodzilla is likely to be Mecha-King Ghidorah, but more Godzilla battling Kong on screen...well, that's no bad thing. Needless to say, we'll keep you updated as we learn more!

Be careful of the language here: Is this a SPECIFIC sequel with Kong AND Godzilla or simply the next entry in the MonsterVerse series that may certainly feature Kong but not necessarily Godzilla (depending upon TOHO signing a new agreement with Legendary to allow Godzilla to appear.) 🧐

I have to say, I was skeptical of a Godzilla Vs Kong film. But they proved me wrong (something that happens about once every ten years).

I loved it! I think the best film company when it comes to fantasy and science fiction is Legendary Entertainment. They have made a believer out of me!
