JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION Is Indeed Getting An Extended Edition According To Leaked Blu-ray Box Art

While it was rumored a few weeks ago, it looks like we've received confirmation that Universal's Jurassic World: Dominion will indeed be getting an extended edition when it arrives on home video.

While Jurassic World: Dominion is still dominating the global box office, having grossed $462.3 million to date, it looks like fans may be in for quite the surprise when the dinosaur blockbuser arrives on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and Digital HD later this year as it's been revealed that an "Extended Edition" may very well be on the way.

A longer version of the film was previously teased by scene-stealer DeWanda Wise (Kayla Watts), who told Collider that more of her character's backstory would be explored in the then-unannounced extended cut,

She had this moment, and it’s probably gonna be in the extended cut, maybe, we’ll see, but she has this beautiful pair of brass knuckles and we have this entire backstory of this adventure that she had gone on in South Africa — [laughs] Girl, I love backstories! — where she procured these knuckles. Because a lot of Kayla has this kind of Indiana Jones, she’s been everywhere. Some of her travels are for work and she goes on them because she has to go on them, and some are just for her.

This "Extended Edition" hasn't been officially announced by Universal Pictures Home Entertainment just yet nor should we expect an announcement for a few more weeks, but there's reason to believe that this alternate version could be quite substantial in nature, despite the already gargantuan 146-minute runtime.

While it's hard to predict what kind of new footage we might see, there's a good chance director Colin Trevorrow will reinsert "The Prologue," which was sorely missed in the theatrical version, and we'll probably get plenty more dinosaur action along with hopefully more scenes with the legacy cast members.

Check out the leaked cover art below:

In our review, we said "Jurassic World: Dominion is pure dinosaur mayhem at its finest, 100% fueled by nostalgia and amplified by epic dinosaur action, making it one of the more fun films of the summer. Due to a so-so story, enjoyment will likely heavily depend on your investment in the series, but if you’re looking for two hours of chaotic entertainment, then this is definitely the film for you."

The star-studded cast of the Jurassic World: Dominion will feature Jurassic alums Chris Pratt (Owen Grady), Bryce Dallas Howard (Claire Dearing), 3x Golden Globe-nominee Sam Neill (Alan Grant), Academy Award-winner Laura Dern (Ellie Sattler), Academy Award-nominee Jeff Goldblum (Ian Malcolm), BD Wong (Dr. Henry Wu), Omar Sy (Barry Sembane), Justice Smith (Franklin Webb), Daniella Pineda (Zia Rodriguez), and Isabella Sermon (Maisie Lockwood).

Newcomers to the franchise include DeWanda Wise (She's Gotta Have It) as Kayla Watts, Mamoudou Athie (Sorry for Your Loss) as Ramsay Cole, Campbell Scott (The Amazing Spider-Man) as Dr. Lewis Dodgson, Scott Haze (Venom) as Rainn Delacourt, Dichen Lachman (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) as Soyona Santos, Kristoffer Polaha (Wonder Woman 1984) as Wyatt Huntley, Elva Trill (Starstruck) as Charlotte Lockwood, Dimitri Thivalos in an undisclosed role, and Varada Sethu (Now You See Me 2) as Shira.

Jurassic World: Dominion roars into theaters June 10!

This summer, experience the epic conclusion to the Jurassic era as two generations unite for the first time. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are joined by Oscar®-winner Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum and Sam Neill in Jurassic World Dominion, a bold, timely and breathtaking new adventure that spans the globe. From Jurassic World architect and director Colin Trevorrow, Dominion takes place four years after Isla Nublar has been destroyed. Dinosaurs now live—and hunt—alongside humans all over the world. This fragile balance will reshape the future and determine, once and for all, whether human beings are to remain the apex predators on a planet they now share with history’s most fearsome creatures.
