JURASSIC WORLD: Here's The Latest On Future Plans For The Franchise After DOMINION

The Jurassic World franchise seemingly reached its end with this summer's Dominion, and we now have an update on where things stand with the series as Universal begins planning for the future. Check it out!

Jurassic World: Dominion was released earlier this year to mixed reviews, though those did little to decrease interest in the threequel. The movie ended up grossing just over $1 billion at the worldwide box office, but with the trilogy now at an end, there are a lot of questions surrounding its future.

It doesn't sound like the core Jurassic Park or Jurassic World actors will return for another sequel, anyway, and Colin Trevorrow has even expressed interest in potentially taking the franchise down the R-Rated horror route.

While time will tell what comes next, The Wrap is reporting that insiders have told them "serious talks on greenlighting another 'Jurassic' film haven’t started yet." That's definitely a somewhat disappointing update, and one that suggests any sort of decision about the future won't be made until well into 2023 (or beyond).

Universal Pictures is a studio with few massively profitable franchises, though, so we're sure they'll revisit the Jurassic movies sooner rather than later.

Last month, Trevorrow weighed in on Jurassic World: Dominion being marketed as the franchise's final chapter, making it clear he hopes to continue telling stories in this world for years to come.

"I never knew that this was the ending of the franchise until I saw the marketing. Those guys are brilliant at what they do, but for me I think it might have been clearer if they’d said, ‘The end of an era’, as opposed to all of it," he said"Because regardless of the cynical approach – of course they’re gonna want to make more money, which is what Jurassic World was about – a new dinosaur fan is born every day. Kids deserve these movies, and young filmmakers grow up on these stories."

Regardless of whether it's a horror movie, a post-apocalyptic adventure in a world overrun by dinosaurs, or something completely unexpected, we do expect more Jurassic movies to be released. It's a little surprising a TV series hasn't happened, though we're sure Universal would rather focus on those box office receipts for now.

What are your hopes for the franchise moving forward?
