There's a lot of excitement for Netflix's upcoming Power Rangers reboot, particularly as the streaming service appears to have serious plans for the franchise.
We know a movie and TV show are in the works, and with End of the F***ing World creator and director Jonathan Entwistle spearheading this new Power Rangers Cinematic Universe alongside Jenny Klein (The Witcher, Jessica Jones), it feels like these characters are in safe hands. Hopefully, that means we'll avoid a repeat of that disappointing 2017 reboot.
Now, some new details about what to expect have leaked online (via The Illuminerdi), and we're sure these will only serve to get you more excited for the future of Power Rangers.
As you can see below, the same team will appear in the movie and TV show, while these Rangers will be new characters and not the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers team. Tonally, it sounds like Netflix will put the cheese to one side in an effort to find a more serious approach to this property, with a serialised form of storytelling like most streaming shows.
The Zords look set to be used sparingly, while Japan looks set to heavily feature as well. It also sounds like we're getting new takes on Zordon and Alpha again, so fingers crossed fans embraced this take more than what we saw in theaters five years ago.
2023 will, of course, mark the 30th anniversary of the Power Rangers franchise. Earlier this year, it was reported that Hasbro wants the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers cast to return to celebrate that, though we don't anticipate their returns necessarily being linked to what Netflix has planned.
