PREY Director Says His PREDATOR Is "Scarier Than We've Ever Seen" Before; New Still Released

Predator prequel, Prey, is set to hit Hulu this August, and director Dan Trachtenberg has now described his take on the iconic alien hunter as "the scariest" we've ever seen.

The Predator franchise has seen a steady decline in quality over the years (though 2010's Predators is vastly underrated), but director Dan Trachtenberg is hoping to breathe new life into the iconic alien hunter with Prey, a prequel tale set in the 18th century.

While chatting to Time Out about the movie, the 10 Cloverfield Lane filmmaker explained that he wanted to make a few tweaks to the Predator's classic design in order to introduce the "scariest" interpretation of the remorseless creature yet.

"I wanted [the Predator] to be scarier than we've seen it before," he says. "It's intelligent and it has advanced technology, and that makes it even more difficult to take on. But because the movie is set 300 years in the past, those things need to feel a little bit older than we've seen before, but also still far more advanced than what we think our earthlings would be able to handle."

Prey

Set in the Comanche Nation 300 years ago, “Prey” is the story of a young woman, Naru, a fierce and highly skilled warrior. She has been raised in the shadow of some of the most legendary hunters who roam the Great Plains, so when danger threatens her camp, she sets out to protect her people. The prey she stalks, and ultimately confronts, turns out to be a highly evolved alien predator with a technically advanced arsenal, resulting in a vicious and terrifying showdown between the two adversaries.

Prey is directed by Dan Trachtenberg, written by Patrick Aison (Jack Ryan, Treadstone), and produced by John Davis (Jungle Cruise, The Predator) and Jhane Myers (Monsters of God), with Lawrence Gordon (Watchmen), Marty Ewing (It: Chapter Two), James E. Thomas, John C. Thomas and Marc Toberoff (Fantasy Island) serving as executive producers.

Prey is set to premiere on the Hulu streaming service on August 5. Keep an eye out for a new trailer very soon!
