Season 3 of Paramount's adult animated comedy series Star Trek: Lower Decks is set to premiere on Thursday, August 25. The upcoming third season will "challenge the U.S.S. Cerritos ensigns in (hilarious) ways they could never imagine, starting with a shocking resolution for season two's epic cliffhanger finale," according to the brief teaser in the press release.
Season 3 of Star Trek: Lower Decks will consist of ten episodes with each new episode premiering weekly on Thursdays, exclusively on the Paramount+ streaming service in the United States.
Created by Emmy Award winner Mike McMahan (Rick and Morty, A Solar Opposites), Star Trek: Lower Decks follows the adventures of the "lower deckers" on the USS Cerritos, one of the Starfleet's least important ships. The series stars Tawny Newsome, Jack Quaid, Noël Wells, and Eugene Cordero voice the lower decks crew members. Providing the voices for the ship's bridge crew are Dawnn Lewis, Jerry O'Connell, Fred Tatasciore, and Gillian Vigman.
In addition to announcing a premiere date, Paramount+ also shared the official key art for Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 3. The poster continues the tradition of paying homage to the classic TOS movie era posters. For Season 3, it's reminscent of the poster for Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, only it's Ensign Rutherford featured front-and-center.
We're still awaiting the full trailer for Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 3, but we shouldn't be waiting too much longer. San Diego Comic-Con takes place next week and Paramount+ will be hosting a Star Trek panel of which Lower Decks will be a part of.
The Star Trek Universe panel will be held on Saturday, July 23 at 12:45. There's a good chance the trailer for Season 3 is released then. In the meantime, this brief teaser was released earlier this year.
STAR TREK: LOWER DECKS focuses on the support crew serving on one of Starfleet's least important ships, the U.S.S. Cerritos. Ensigns Mariner, Boimler, Rutherford and Tendi have to keep up with their duties and their social lives, often while the ship is being rocked by a multitude of sci-fi anomalies.
The first two seasons of Star Trek: Lower Decks are available to stream exclusively on Paramount+. With only 20, 30-minute episodes, there's plenty of time to binge through them before the arrival of Season 3 in August.
