Ahsoka Tano has become one of the Star Wars franchise's most popular characters, and following her live-action appearances in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, we probably shouldn't be too surprised that she's getting her own series.
The Star Wars Rebels sequel is coming to Disney+ next year, and stars Rosario Dawson and Natasha Liu Bordizzo shared some new details on the series during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. The former started by explaining what it's been like to go from making cameo appearances to taking on a lead role in her own series.
"What I love is that these little things we've gotten to hint at in these other shows, we get to more deeply explore," Dawson explains. "I think whether you've seen the previous animations or have only seen these episodes, she's still quite mysterious at this stage and point in her life."
"That's what I think is the most exciting part of Ahsoka having her own series here, that you get to better understand her in this part of her journey."
At Star Wars Celebration, it was confirmed that Bordizzo will play Sabine Wren, but the actor confirmed that she wasn't even aware she was auditioning for a Star Wars project. However, once the ball got rolling, she soon realised that a trip to this Galaxy Far, Far Away awaited her.
"It was a very, very quick process," she recalls. "I was suspicious! I was like, 'Wait, I have the offer for this?' I met Jon Favreau later, and he was basically like, 'I get it. I'm an actor. I don't want to put you through the ringer, and I don't want to make you do a million takes and auditions and tests. We know we want you, and that's it.' I really appreciated that."
There's a lot of mystery surrounding the show, including how Ezra Bridger and Grand Admiral Thrawn will factor into the story. We know Ahsoka is looking for them, but what sort of consequences will that have for the Star Wars franchise and, more specifically, the sequel trilogy?
We'll find out soon as Ahsoka is set to premiere on Disney+ sometime next year.
