In last Wednesday's episode of Andor, Stellan Skarsgård's Luthen Rael paid another visit to Saw Garrera. He didn't receive the warmest of welcomes, of course, and ended up being searched on his way in, with a weapon shown that many fans argued could be a lightsaber.
Rael being a former Jedi is a nice theory, though it would be a little hard to believe he'd somehow escaped Order 66 and found a way to set up shop on Coruscant (in full sight of Emperor Palpatine and the Empire). Still, there was always a chance it could be a lightsaber, especially as his den of antiquities is filled with various artefacts from the time of the Jedi.
Now, the truth has been revealed, though it's not quite that exciting.
As you can see in the post below, Luthen is, in fact, wielding a knife. It's just a very unique design which sees it hidden inside what looks like a club or staff. As a result, we'd probably suggest forgetting about seeing him whip out a lightsaber to battle the Empire in the finale or season 2!
Andor not featuring Jedi Knights is hardly a shocker, especially as the series is both very grounded and focused on telling the story of how the Rebellion was formed. While the likes of Ahsoka Tano and Luke Skywalker would be key in that down the line, the fact it was initially created by normal people in the Galaxy is so far proving to be a far more interesting story.
The show presents Star Wars from a different perspective, focusing on everyday people whose lives are affected by the Empire. The decisions they make have real consequences, and the stakes for them - and the Galaxy - couldn’t be higher.
Diego Luna returns as Cassian Andor and is joined by cast members Genevieve O’Reilly, Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, Denise Gough, Kyle Soller and Fiona Shaw. The executive producers are Kathleen Kennedy, Tony Gilroy, Sanne Wohlenberg, Diego Luna and Michelle Rejwan. Tony Gilroy is also the creator and showrunner.
The season finale of Andor arrives on Disney+ this Wednesday.
