Marvel Studios has delivered hit after hit since 2008, and Kevin Feige is the mastermind behind that success. He's also a huge Star Wars fan, of course, and is producing a standalone movie for Lucasfilm. This has led to a lot of conspiracy theories online that Feige is being eyed to take over Lucasfilm from Kathleen Kennedy in order to put the franchise back on what many believe would be the right track.

As far as we know, that's not happening, though Kennedy could do with some help in restoring the franchise's former glory on the big screen. The Rise of Skywalker was released way back in 2019, and with Rogue Squadron unlikely to arrive next year, it could be half a decade or more before the Star Wars franchise returns to theaters (after getting yearly releases since 2015's The Force Awakens).

Despite the fact we have no real details about what direction Feige's Star Wars movie is heading in, there's a lot of excitement for the project, especially with Michael Waldron penning the screenplay. Talking to Variety, the Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness shared a big update on how work is progressing on the movie, saying that "We’re finally into it in earnest."

"I mean, I’m writing away. It’s a lot of fun. I’m enjoying having the freedom on that to do something that’s not necessarily a sequel or anything," Waldron teased. "It maybe has a little bit less of a — it just doesn’t have a bunch of TV shows and movies that you’re servicing on top of it, the way I did with 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.' So it’s nice. It feels like a different exercise."

In other words, this is a standalone story rather than a sequel or spinoff. That's an exciting prospect on a number of levels, and we can't wait to see what corner of this Galaxy Far, Far Away we're heading to.

Keep checking back here for the latest as we're bound to learn more about this one soon.
