After helming the record-breaking Jurassic World, it made perfect sense for Colin Trevorrow to be tasked with directing Star Wars Episode IX. However, "creative differences" would lead to the filmmaker being dismissed from the project, and J.J. Abrams was later tasked with directing the critically panned The Rise of Skywalker.
Story details and concept art for Trevorrow's Duel of the Fates eventually leaked online, with the vast majority of Star Wars fans agreeing that his planned finale was better than Abrams'.
During a recent interview with the Jurassic World Dominion director, ComicBook.com asked Trevorrow if he would consider returning to the franchise after his firing. Fans certainly wouldn't be against the idea, but Trevorrow seems uncertain about heading back to that Galaxy Far, Far Away.
"I don't know," Trevorrow said. "Not because of Star Wars, but because I've spent 8 or 9 [years] making new versions of the things we love when we were kids. You know? In one place or another. There's not just a lot of pressure on that, but it also casts a shadow over everything else that you want to do."
"I made a small film after Jurassic World, and I was the 'Director of Star Wars' when I made it," the filmmaker continued. "And I think to be able to step out of that a little bit and not having everything I do be in the context of our belief systems is interesting to me."
Next up for Trevorrow is War Magician, a movie about British illusionist Jasper Maskelyne. He used magic to help defeat the Nazis during World War II, and Benedict Cumberbatch is attached to star. It doesn't currently have a release date, however.
As for Star Wars, we're betting that the director is no more interested in working for Lucasfilm again than fired Solo: A Star Wars Story helmers Phil Lord and Chris Miller.
Do you wish we'd seen Trevorrow's version of Episode IX?
