Despite being a former Batman, comic book fans were still shocked when Christian Bale signed up to play Gorr the God Butcher in Thor: Love and Thunder. Unfortunately, it didn't feel like Marvel Studios made the best use of the Oscar-winner, with the actor later confirming that at least two of his biggest scenes ended up on the cutting room floor.
Despite that, Bale clearly hasn't soured on potentially starring in another big franchise as he made his interest in Star Wars known during a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
"All I ever wanted in Star Wars was to be in a Star Wars outfit and hit my head on a door or something as I walked through," the actor admits. "The real nerds who watched Star Wars way too many times always knew about that one scene where the Stormtrooper hits his head on the door as he comes through. I wanted to be that guy. That was it."
"But look, if I’m fortunate enough to be more than that, oh man, yeah. What a delight that would be. I’ve still got the figures from when I was little," Bale continued, revealing his Star Wars fandom. "I also know Kathy Kennedy very well because she was working with Spielberg when I did Empire of the Sun, and now, she runs the Star Wars universe."
That sounds promising, and we have to believe Kennedy would jump at the chance to enlist an actor of Bale's pedigree to the Star Wars Universe (especially as she continues to struggle with figuring out the franchise's big screen future). We don't know how serious the former Batman is being here, of course, but it does sound like this series is one he'd tick off the bucket list.
Looking to the future, Patty Jenkins' Rogue Squadron appears to have fallen apart, while we know movies are still - hopefully - in various stages of development from producer Kevin Feige and writer Michael Waldron, as well as Bale's Thor: Love and Thunder director, Taika Waititi.
Who would you like to see Bale play in this Galaxy Far, Far Away?
