Netflix never confirmed a release date for Stranger Things season 5 but it was widely expected to be released late-2024 or early 2025.
However, series creators The Duffer Brothers announced in May that production on the series would be shutting down while the strikes remain ongoing.
Appearing on MTV correspondent Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused podcast, Hopper actor David Harbour confirmed that he was able to read scripts for the show's final season before the strikes got underway.
"They continue to outdo themselves, these currently-on-strike writers called the Duffer Brothers. It's a hell of an undertaking, too. I mean, the set pieces and the things in the scripts that we saw are bigger than anything we've done in the past."
"It'll take a while to shoot, which will be tough since we can't get started yet, but it is what it is. I'm excited to go back. I'm excited to wrap it up in a bold, amazing way."
"I'm excited to really swing with this character because you know they're going to pay off these OG characters: Eleven, Hopper, Joyce, Will, Mike. They're going to pay them off in big ways because they've lived with you for the past eight years."
Previously, we reported on comments Harbour made about wanting to leave television behind and only act in films after Stranger Things end.
Harbour also confirmed that he was able to learn how the show ends before the strike went into effect but he obviously didn't divulge any details.
"I know what it is. I know where we net out and it's very, very moving. That is the term I will use."
While the popular Netflix series' fifth season is confirmed to be its last, there are several spin-offs in the works. Netflix placed an order for an anime set in the world of Stranger Things back in April 2023 that's rumored to be titled Stranger Things: Tokyo.
A live-action spin-off for the streaming service is already in the works though not much is known about it other than it won't feature Eleven or any other numbered resident of the Hawkins National Laboratory.
We'll likely learn more about these projects when the strikes end and the show's fifth season concludes. It's hard to imagine Netflix or the Duffers wanting any spinoffs to take the shine off the show's final season.
