To date, Emma Stone and director Yorgos Lanthimos have collaborated on several projects including 2018's The Favourite, a 2022 short film titled Bleat, this year's award-season darling Poor Things and the upcoming anthology film, Kinds of Kindness.
For The Favourite, the duo took home the Grand Jury Prize at the 75th Venice International Film Festival and secured several prestigious nominations including a Best Supporting Actress nomination for Stone at the 2019 Oscars.
This year, Stone is up for the Bes Actress award at this year's Oscars for Poor Things. She figures to be the odds-on favorite for the award after picking up wins at the BAFTAs, Critics' Choice Awards and Golden Globes.
It seems Stone and Lanthimos are set on a fifth collaboration, as news has broken that the pair will be reuniting on an upcoming remake of the South Korean fantasy comedy Save the Green Planet.
However, unlike their previous collaborations, it's reported that Stone will only have a supporting role in the film.
Per Variety, Save the Green Planet "revolves around a disillusioned young man who captures and tortures a businessman whom he believes to be part of an alien invasion. A battle of wits ensues between the captor, his devoted girlfriend, the businessman and a private detective."
The original 2003 film is something of a cult hit, winning several honors at various fantasy festivals and securing director Jang Joon-hwan the Golden Bell Award for best new director in Korea.
A North American remake of the film has been in the works for quite some time, with Jang originally set to direct from a script penned by Will Tracy (Succession, The Menu).
Kinds of Kindness is currently in post-production, so it's thought that Lanthimos will start filming Save the Green Planet this Summer.
Reflecting on their collaboration process, particularly on Poor Things, Stone stated, "Every second has been, like, a dream...We don't fight fight; we really communicate, strongly, in those moments. But I think we always resolve it relatively quickly."
Lanthimos added, "We can speak to each other, freely. So it helps. We like to ease into things. In general, we try to create this atmosphere which doesn't create tension."
Save The Green Planet Synopsis (original film):
