ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL - James Cameron And Robert Rodriguez Have Sworn A "Blood Oath" To Make A Sequel

We recently learned that a sequel to Alita: Battle Angel was being discussed, and it sounds like director Robert Rodriguez and producer James Cameron are more determined to make it happen that we realized!

2019's Alita: Battle Angel received a mixed response from critics, but fans of the original manga seemed to embrace the sci-fi adaptation, and have been campaigning for a sequel ever since.

Recently, producer Jon Landau confirmed that discussions have been taking place when he stated that "we'd love to circle back and do a sequel" to Alita, and it sounds like the two men who would be integral to a second film entering development are even more determined to get the ball rolling.

Director Robert Rodriguez and producer James Cameron took part in a dual-interview with Variety, and when the subject was brought up, Cameron urged his fellow filmmaker to swear a (virtual) blood oath to make Alita 2 a reality.

What are the chances of this actually happening? Honestly, pretty high! The first film didn't exactly set the box office alight, but it was a moderate success for 20th Century Studios (then Fox), and we have a feeling Cameron is going to have even more sway after Avatar: The Way of Water hits theaters this weekend.

"Set several centuries in the future, the abandoned Alita is found in the scrapyard of Iron City by Ido, a compassionate cyber-doctor who takes the unconscious cyborg Alita to his clinic. When Alita awakens, she has no memory of who she is, nor does she have any recognition of the world she finds herself in. As Alita learns to navigate her new life and the treacherous streets of Iron City, Ido tries to shield her from her mysterious past."
