There was a time that Marvel Studios movies would rarely dip below 80% on Rotten Tomatoes, but that all changed when Eternals hit theatres in 2021, and the MCU's first Phase 5 release has now followed suit.

The review embargo for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania lifted yesterday, and while the first wave of verdicts were mixed-positive (for the most part), the critical consensus soon took a turn for the negative.

Peyton Reed's sci-fi adventure is currently sitting at 54% on Rotten Tomatoes with 121 reviews counted: "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania mostly lacks the spark of fun that elevated earlier adventures, but Jonathan Majors' Kang is a thrilling villain poised to alter the course of the MCU."

While the score will likely fluctuate over the next few days, as things stand, this makes Quantumania only the second ever Marvel Studios film to drop to "rotten" status on the popular review aggregator after Eternals (47%).

Disappointing, but it is worth noting that the MCU has proved to be critic-proof to a large extent, and Ant-Man 3 is still projected to take in as much as $280 million worldwide this weekend.

Do you guys plan on catching Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in theatres on the 17th? Drop us a comment in the usual place, and if you're interested in my verdict, you can check out my Twitter reaction below.

Super-Hero partners Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) return to continue their adventures as Ant-Man and the Wasp. Together, with Hope’s parents Janet van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) and Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), and Scott’s daughter Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton), the family finds themselves exploring the Quantum Realm, interacting with strange new creatures and embarking on an adventure that will push them beyond the limits of what they thought possible.

Directed by Peyton Reed and produced by Kevin Feige and Stephen Broussard, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania also stars Jonathan Majors as Kang, David Dastmalchian as Veb, Katy O'Brian as Jentorra, William Jackson Harper as Quaz and Bill Murray as Lord Krylar.
