Michael Douglas played the original pint-sized superhero, Hank Pym, in three Ant-Man movies, but it sounds like he might be done with the character.
While promoting Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumnia last year, the veteran actor said he would only return for a fourth instalment "as long as I could die," and has now revealed that he actually campaigned for Pym to be killed off in Quantumania.
"This actually was my request for the third one," Douglas told The View when asked about his previous comments. "I said I’d like to have a serious [death], with all these great special effects. There’s got to be some fantastic way where I can shrink to an ant size and explode, whatever it is. I want to use all those effects. But, that was on the last one. Now, I don’t think I’m going to show up."
Though there's always a chance Douglas could be convinced to reprise the role, it really doesn't sound like he has much interest.
Pym didn't get a whole lot to do in the last movie, but Douglas still managed to make an impression (arguably more so than the leads), so it would be a shame if he decided to step away for good.
Although Marvel's Stephen Broussard did indicate that a fourth Ant-Man movie was in the works shortly after Quantumania was released, the movie's underperformance at the box office makes a direct sequel highly unlikely. If Pym was going to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it would probably in one of the next Avengers movies.

Super-Hero partners Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) return to continue their adventures as Ant-Man and the Wasp. Together, with Hope’s parents Janet van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) and Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), and Scott’s daughter Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton), the family finds themselves exploring the Quantum Realm, interacting with strange new creatures and embarking on an adventure that will push them beyond the limits of what they thought possible.
Directed by Peyton Reed and produced by Kevin Feige and Stephen Broussard, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania also stars Jonathan Majors as Kang, David Dastmalchian as Veb, Katy O'Brian as Jentorra, William Jackson Harper as Quaz and Bill Murray as Lord Krylar.
