Keep this upcoming time-traveling, sci-fi film from director Jared Moshé on your radar as it might be a sleeper hit in a summer currently enraptured with Barbenheimer mania.
Aporia stars Greer (Halloween Kills), Edi Gathegi (The Harder They Fall), Payman Maadi (A Separation), and Faithe Herman (Shazam!). Gathegi was just recently cast as Mister Terrific in James Gunn's Superman: Legacy.
The film was written and directed by Moshé (The Ballad of Lefty Brown). Speaking to Deadline, he described the film as, "a genre-bending, time travel film that never goes back in time."
The film sees Sophie (Greer), coping with the loss of her husband Mal (Gathegi) due to a drunk driving accident. It's later revealed to Sophie that Mal was working on a time machine with his best friend (Maadi). They never quite got it to work right but it is capable of sending a single bullet back in time.
Sophie makes the choice to use this power to save Mal but saving him has terrible, unforeseen consequences.
Aporia will have its world premiere later this week at the 2023 Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal. Two screenings will be held on July 27 and 28. A U.S. theatrical release will follow on August 11.
Aporia Official Synopsis: Since losing her husband, Sophie has struggled to manage grief, a full-time job, and parenting her devastated daughter, but when a former physicist reveals a secret time-bending machine, Sophie will be faced with an impossible choice.
