Avatar: The Way of Water splashes down into theaters this December, but before we get to experience James Cameron's long-awaited sequel, Avatar returns to the big screen this month.
The Academy Award-winning 2009 epic adventure is the most successful movie of all time, and returns to theaters on September 23 in stunning 4K High Dynamic Range. Now, 20th Century Studios has released a new TV spot and posters to build hype for what we're sure will be another record-breaking weekend for the 13-year-old blockbuster.
While the movie was responsible for ushering in an era of terrible 3D conversions as studios looked to cash in on the craze, Avatar made superb use of the format and, unless you have an old 3D TV lying about somewhere, this will be the only way to experience it in that way.
Earlier this week, we attended the global press conference for this Avatar re-release and got to ask Stephen Lang about how his villain, Colonel Quaritch, has left a lasting impact on moviegoers. Stay tuned because we'll be bringing you that (along with other highlights from the event) very soon.
Written and directed by Cameron, Avatar stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez, and Sigourney Weaver.
The film was produced by James Cameron and Jon Landau, and ended up being nominated for nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. Ultimately, Avatar won three Oscars for Best Cinematography, Production Design, and Visual Effects.
