20th Century Studios has released a new trailer and poster for Avatar: The Way of Water, James Cameron’s highly anticipated, first follow-up to his Academy Award-winning Avatar, the highest-grossing movie of all time (its lead over Avengers: Endgame was cemented with a re-release back in September).
In this sneak peek, war comes to Pandora and we get to see some of the incredible underwater visuals that promise to be as groundbreaking as the first movie's 3D effects. We don't learn much about the plot, unfortunately, but it's obvious that the focus is going to be shifted to Jake and Neytiri's growing family as another conflict arises courtesy of the sinister RDA.
As for that poster, it just feels like classic Avatar, and it's getting hard not to be excited for what's to come this December.
To celebrate the trailer and poster launch, Disney will hold a stunning light show of massive proportions featuring highlights from the film projected tonight over Niagara Falls.
With Avatar: The Way of Water, the cinematic experience reaches new heights as Cameron transports audiences back to the magnificent world of Pandora in a spectacular and stirring action-packed adventure.
Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, the sequel begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.
Directed by James Cameron and produced by Cameron and Jon Landau, the Lightstorm Entertainment Production stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, and Kate Winslet. The screenplay was penned James Cameron, Rick Jaffa, and Amanda Silver based on a story by Cameron, Jaffa, Silver, Josh Friedman, and Shane Salerno.
Avatar: The Way of Water splashes down in theaters worldwide on December 16.
