Barbie is set to hit theaters this weekend, and now that the review embargo has lifted, critics have been sharing their verdicts on Greta Gerwig's fantasy comedy online.

The movie is currently sitting at a very impressive 90% on Rotten Tomatoes with 119 reviews counted. More are sure to come as the second round of press screenings take place this Thursday, but based on the overall positive reception, we don't expect a drastic dip.

The lead performances from Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling are universally praised, as is Gerwig's direction and the movie's thoughtfully self-aware tone. Most critics found Barbie very funny, but it sounds like some of the humor also fails to hit the mark, particularly in the third act.

Barbie opens on the same day as Christopher Nolan's historical biopic, Oppenheimer, so it'll be very interesting to see which of these diametrically opposed films comes out on top of the box office.

You can see what critics had to say about the movie for yourselves at the link below.

From Oscar-nominated writer/director Greta Gerwig (Little Women, Lady Bird) comes Barbie, which also stars America Ferrera (End of Watch, the How to Train Your Dragon films), Kate McKinnon (Bombshell, Yesterday), Issa Rae (The Photograph, Insecure), Rhea Perlman (I’ll See You in My Dreams, Matilda), and Will Ferrell (the Anchorman films, Talladega Nights), and more.

Gerwig directs from a screenplay she penned alongside Oscar nominee Noah Baumbach (Marriage Story, The Squid and the Whale), based on the iconic fashion dolls by Mattel.

The film’s producers are Oscar nominee David Heyman (Marriage Story, Gravity), Robbie, Tom Ackerley and Robbie Brenner, with Gerwig, Baumbach, Ynon Kreiz, Richard Dickson, Michael Sharp, Josey McNamara, Courtenay Valenti, Toby Emmerich and Cate Adams serving as executive producers.
