It's something fans have debated ever since the Final Cut of Ridley Scott's Blade Runner added a couple of scenes that indicated (if not outright suggested) that protagonist Rick Deckard was actually a Replicant.
Star Harrison Ford always maintained that his character was indeed one of the artificial humans he'd been tasked with tracking down and "retiring," but Scott disputed this, preferring to leave things ambiguous.
This also proved to be Denis Villeneuve's, who helmed sequel Blade Runner 2099, stance as he purposely left the big reveal (or lack thereof) open to interpretation during a key scene between Deckard and a new version of Sean Young's Rachel.
Even so, Ford is sticking to his guns: as far as he's concerned, Deckard is most definitely not human.
"I always knew that I was a replicant," the Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny star tells Esquire. "I just wanted to push back against it though. I think a replicant would want to believe that they're human. At least this one did.
Far be it from us to argue with Mr. Ford, but unfortunately - or fortunately, depending on your perspective - we will probably never get a definitive answer. There is a Blade Runner 2099 series in the works for Prime Video, but the WGA strike has caused significant delays.
